What kind of physiotherapy practice are you?
Having a degree in Physiotherapy, M.Sc. in Sports Science, certificate in Advanced Postural Alignment and qualified in Schroth & SEAS based scoliosis therapy allows Larry and his team to provide a unique and effective treatment experience. Injuries and pain are scrutinized to identify the most likely source of the pain. Often the source of the pain is not the site of the pain. Once identified, the source of the pain is addressed leading to a resolution of the pain.
How our treatment differs from other physiotherapy practices:
- Individualized treatment: patients are given undivided attention
- Minimal use of machines
- Tailored exercise program prescription
- Super-specialised posture & scoliosis treatment based on the Egoscue, Schroth & SEAS method
What is posture alignment therapy (using the Egoscue Method)?
Postural alignment therapy is based on the premise that the human body has a specific design posture and that deviations away from the design posture can cause pain, either at the site of the deviation or elsewhere in the body. Posture Alignment Therapy using the Egoscue method empowers you, the patient, to correct your alignment, leading to a resolution of pain, prevention of injury, increase in performance capacity and an increased general sense of well being.
For more information on the Egoscue Method see www.egoscue.com or click here to download the therapy synopsis
Can posture alignment therapy treat scoliosis?
Effective scoliosis treatment requires a specialised approach. The Schroth & SEAS method of scoliosis treatment are the worlds' most validated method of effectively treating scoliosis. These methods involves a therapy plan of specific exercises to correct scoliotic posture in the assumption that scoliotic posture promotes curve progression.
The aim of the method is to:
- Stop curve progression
- Reduce functional limitations
- Improve and symptoms
If you are attending for Schroth therapy please advise the front desk when making the appointment. You will need a 2- hour initial appointment. Please bring your x-rays with you and a pair of shorts / leggings and bikini top or narrow band bra if female.
Please feel free to email any questions you have regarding scoliosis. Email correspondence is quite impersonal so please include your child's name if emailng on behalf of your child as it makes the replies slightly more personal.
See Scoliosis for more information.
What Equipment do I need for Schroth based exercises?
- An adjustable webbing belt and strap* which can be made up from material available at spotlight stores
- Rice filled vinyl pads and wedges* (patterns are available in documents and folders page)
- Wall bars or a similar contraption (chin-up bars*) that will allow the patient to hang or lean from.
- A small stool or step and a smaller (than the step) PVC cylinder.
- Theraband or theratubing*
- 2 poles that are taller than the patient's overhead reach
*Postural Physiotherapy has the wedges, pads, webbing strap, chin-up bars and theraband available for sale, at a nominal cost. The wedges and pads can be challenging to sew, so we recommend purchasing them from us.
Information for interstate scoliosis patients.
Prior to November 2010, Larrry has been the only Schroth certified therapist in Australia. If you are interested in treatment in the Bondi Junction clinic please contact us for details. Accommodation is available upstairs at the Meriton serviced apartments building.
Please see scoliosis for more information if you are travelling from overseas/interstate. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call us if you are in need of further information or unsure of anything.
Can posture alignment therapy treat disc problems and sciatica?
Yes. Once the posture and mechanical reason behind the disc problem and sciatica is identified and treated then symptoms often resolve and pain significantly reduces and quality of life improves. .
How many treatments will I need?
For most injuries, it depends. Each person is treated according to their needs. However, if, despite adherence and commitment to the treatment program, no benefit is realized within 3-6 treatments, then you will probably be referred to an appropriate specialist to assist with your recovery.
Scoliosis programs work slightly differently, please see scoliosis for more information.
How much does it cost?
Postural Physiotherapy believes in providing very cost- effective treatment. Larry and his team have years of experience in the treatment and diagnosis of sports, orthopaedic, musculoskeletal and postural injury. If adequate treatment results are not achieved as expected, referrals to relevant specialists are facilitated. Our therapists are exceedingly well trained and invest considerable time and expense in ongoing training. We seek out the worlds leading experts and bring their knowledge back to our clinic.
Please contact us for pricing.
Please contact Postural Physiotherapy for detailed scoliosis and postural treatment costs including possible medicare rebates. Mid-program assessment reviews take half an hour are priced the same as physiotherapy treatments. Should you qualify, your GP can give you a Chronic Disease Management Plan, which will allow you to claim some of the treatment costs from Medicare.
On-line therapy for general posture issues (not structural scoliosis) costs $50 per menu developed (including all correspondence). A receipt will be issued for submission to your health fund.
Is there a health fund rebate?
You will receive a receipt for your consultation; and depending on your cover will be able to claim a health fund rebate. Most health fund rebates can be processed on-site via our HICAPS system.
Do you accept allied health care plans?
Yes, if your GP provides you with a Chonic Disease Management Plan for physiotherapy, you will be provided with a receipt which will allow you to claim approx. $50 from Medicare per visit for up to five visits.
Do you work with insurers (workers comp., income protection, CTP)?
Postural alignment therapy has successfully treated numerous cases of chronic pain and thus long term pain sufferers are ideal candidates for treatment. Prior approval from your insurer is required for all treatment.
The recommended protocol is 8 sessions of 30 minutes over a period of 8-12 weeks and then quarterly reviews.
Please provide us with:
- claim number
- date of injury
- case manager name and contact information
- insurer
- insurer address
- treating doctor and contact information
- employer
- name of contact at work and phone number
- Information relating to your injury and treatment: xrays, letters etc
When your claim is approved, you will receive a letter from your insurer containing most of this information. Please bring all referrals, letters, xrays and documentation with you. Note that you are responsible for payment if your claim is not approved.
What are your hours?
Appointments are available Mon-Fri from 7.30 am to 6pm. In all cases, please call to make an appointment. We are also able to visit you at home if you are unable to travel to the clinic (local area only).
Emergency appointments at other times are available on request.
Where will I find you & is there parking?
We are at Suite 8, Level 1, 97 Grafton Street in the Meriton commercial office suites, Bondi Junction (cnr Grafton and Grosvenor streets).
Please see the contact us page for a map view of our location
Two hour free parking is available across the road at Westfield Bondi Junction (exit through the David Jones foot court). There is street parking in the area however this is time limited. Our building sits atop the Bondi Junction train station and bus terminus.
What do I need for the first appointment?
Please bring a singlet and shorts and running shoes, as well as any x-rays and reports that you have.
Scoliosis treatment requires close scrutiny of postural deviations and mechanics. Females should wear a bikini top or sports bra with a thin back strap as well as tights / shorts or leggings.
Be ready to give a full history of your problems. It would be helpful if you can recall your symptom profile (type of pain, the severity and aggravating and relieving factors).
I have tried other physiotherapy / chiropractic / osteopathic treatment and it didn’t work (or didn’t work for long). How will I know that this will work for me? How do I know if your treatment is suitable for my problem?
You won’t. Larry’s posture alignment physiotherapy works differently from other therapies, so there is no basis for comparison. We have many testimonials describing positive results in attending therapy.

What will my commitment be?
A conscious decision to take ownership of your health. Postural dysfunction and scoliosis patients will more than likely be prescribed an exercise program of an agreed time to be completed regularly. Once you have been prescribed your exercise routine and are able to perform it adequately you will need to return for ongoing reviews (3-6) over the next six months and then quarterly.
Do I need a referral from a doctor?
No referral is needed.
What can I do right now (I am in pain)?
For acute (recent) injuries use the RICE treatment principle:
- R - Relative rest (Do what you feel comfortable doing, if its too sore then rest completely, if pain is moderate, move around comfortably)
- I - Ice the area 10-15 minutes (place the ice in a wet tea towel).
- C - Compress the injured area with a support bandage
- E - Elevate (raise) the area above the level of your heart
If pain is too severe then see your doctor or attend your local emergency clinic.
Can Postural alignment therapy improve my image?
"In the first five seconds your image influences the people you meet"
Jon-Michail, CEO, Image Group International.
Apart from improving your pain and performance, posture alignment therapy will make you look (and feel!!) significantly better. If you are investing in an image consultant and a new wardrobe then make sure that you invest your body too.
What happens if I can’t see you in person?
On-line therapy is available for general postural issues if you can’t get to us in the clinic. Online therapy is unsuitable for structural scoliosis patients. You will need a digital camera and email to send 4 posture photos (front on, 2 side on and back facing) which will be analysed and a program will be emailed back to you. The photo’s need to be full body, barefoot, above knee shorts and tucked-in singlet (if female). Please see above for information with regard to Scoliosis patients who live interstate.
