E attending Schroth based scoliosis treatment
Patient's comments: I liked how Larry was so keen to know about the spine and learning about everything. Let's just say I found it better because he had the right attitude, not like those boring doctors in XXXXXXXXXX.. Larry said things clear and when I didn't understand something he would always explain in a very good way. The movements I liked were ... Everything - there was nothing I didn't not like. It was good how Larry explained everything about my spine before we did anything. I also liked how he took photos and printed everything off for me. Larry was nice!! Parents' comments: We were very impressed by the amount of knowledge you had, we learnt a lot, answered all our questions no matter how small. We also appreciated to no-end the help with getting the Medicare rebates including bringing theMedicare levy to our attention. When you taught E. you also taught us, included us in the sessions and allowed us to be a part of it. I thought that the 5 two- hour sessions were good, this allowed E to review every day what the movements were and to correct and work on what she had learnt to fully reinforce it within her mind. Despite her exhaustion of being away from home and in a different city she always came away from the sessions saying she felt refreshed and better. The 'manual' that you made up was brilliant, she uses it and looks through it more often than when she is just doing her exercises. Including the instructions for building the equipment was great rather than having to purchase 'ready made' and prospectively expensive equipment, we have been able to build what suits us for what area we have available. I don't think our 'wedges' have worked out quite so well as the ones you had, we made them out of a very soft cotton but have found some vinyl in mums cupboard that I think may work better and hold its shape more effectively. E comments on how they are not as good as the ones you had - they don't feel right. I will keep working on that! |
Robyn for Chronic Knee Pain
Approximately 5 yrs ago I had an arthroscopy done on my right knee. This necessitated me having to go for physiotherapy for weeks after. I don’t believe I ever recovered completely and over the years had many ‘attacks’ where I became debilitated from severe knee pain. I have seen a well known Sydney Orthopaedic surgeon twice in and he assured me after x-rays, scans as well as an MRI , that it was degeneration and something that I’d have to ‘ get used to and live with’. I went for physiotherapy to a variety of practitioners, took anti-inflammatories, applied heat as well as cold packs, rested etc but the problem recurred. I am a very active middle-aged woman who loves walking, bushwalking and dancing and because of this recurring condition am most often unable to partake in these activities. The reason I am writing this letter, is to tell you how ecstatic I am to have discovered and be treated by Larry Cohen. Besides being an absolute gentleman, he is the first person who has seemed genuinely interested in my case. His approach was different from the other physios I had been to previously. He didn’t spend hours, week after week applying hot and cold packs, ultrasound and telling me to do exercises that weren’t monitored. He asked me what it was that I wanted to achieve. After a series of questions, taking videos of me walking etc. he filled me in on how he intended treating it and explained everything in detail. I have had a series of treatments, do exercises daily and I am a different person. I am certainly not pain free but now know a) what causes the flare ups and b) exactly how to treat them. I have recently done an easy but long bushwalk and not only did I do it with confidence, but by using the strapping method which Larry taught me didn’t have any pain thereafter…. a real first for me! I am feeling so much happier in myself and feel so very grateful to Larry and have recommended him wherever and whenever I can. I am sure that with his knowledge and amazing attitude he will go along way in his field; he certainly deserves to. Robyn S. |
Tony, a tennis player with chronic elbow, shoulder, back and knee pain
Hi Larry, Just wanted to let you know that I played singles for 2 hours last night WITH NO PAIN. Nothing, Zilch, Zippo! I even walked off the court afterwards pain free and no shuffling around today, it is just amazing, I never thought it would be possible again. I was even running fast to the ball like I used to, I just cant get over it. Thanks for the magic! Regards Tony and John, You have got to go and see Larry. I also have rotator cuff problems, had them for nigh on 15 years, some days it was so bad I couldn't hit a backhand and forget about sleeping on my right hand side at nights. I went to see Larry about my back [which is now 100% better thanks to him] I mentioned my rotator problems and he gave me a simple exercise for it which I do each day, it has helped so much, I can even sleep on that side and hit backhands again with grunt! Everybody is different though, that's why I would urge you to make an appointment to go and see Larry. Let me know how you get on and I hope to see you back on the court soon. Tony |
Edward for Sports Injuries and Exercise Rehabilitation
Larry Cohen has been a stabilising force in my running career for the past two years. Having someone like him in your corner is excellent, because he is so skilled at what he does. I’ve come to Larry with all sorts of problems, from rolled ankles to ligament pain and postural imbalances. He addresses and treats the injury or problem expertly, with a focus on keeping you running (or cycling, swimming, training…) and getting you back to fitness as quickly as possible. He is well versed in a variety of treatment techniques, and keeps up to date with all the latest developments. Because of his wide range of connections, he understands how to use and apply the best of a range of treatments, depending and what will suit you the best. He has been able to treat me with everything from the usual massage and ultrasound, to acupuncture and new total-body realignment therapy. But the best things is, being an avid athlete himself, he understands the commitments and problems involved with competitive sport, and can usually empathise directly with your situation to appreciate the consequences of your injury in terms of your training and goals. In this way he has helped me return from injuries in time and ready for major athletics meets, and more recently for both the NSW and Australian Cross Country Championships. Larry Cohen is an excellent physiotherapist. He is able to professionally treat any range of injuries or problems; and has helped me recover back to my best many times. I have much to thank him for, and his experience has been invaluable. Edward O. (NSW Runner) |
Joel for Shoulder Rehabilitation
I would like by thanking Larry Cohen for the huge help he has been in rehabilitating what seemed like the incurable injury. During early 2005 I started developing a tremor in my right hand and severe pain in my shoulder, I was forced to give up any exercise that required any upper body work, and was unable to lift my own children from the pain. I went to my general practitioner twice before he recommended I see a physiotherapist, unfortunately it was not Larry. For six months I lived on 6 to 8 painkillers and 4 to 6 anti-inflammatory tablets per day. When that did not work and neither did the physiotherapy, I had a MRI and Cat scan looking for a brain injury, when that came up clear I had cortisone injections into my shoulder, which helped for 24 hours. It was over 1 year since my first symptom, I had all but given up rehabilitating my shoulder and was concerned about my ability to continue working and considering I am 31 that was a terrifying concept. It was in mid 2006 I went to see Larry, he proceeded to tell me about some new treetment he had been trained on in the United States, he gave me three exercises and some print-outs. It took about a one week for the pain to disappear and one month for the shaking to stop. I have since returned to gym and do not have any problems at all. It was a frightening and painful journey to go through, I thought this could never happen to me as I had always done lots of strength training, but it had. This painful journey had been pulled to an abrupt stop by what can only be described as a pleasant, friendly and highly competent physiotherapist.Using some simple and easy to follow routines. Diana for Chronic Pain
I am writing this letter to thank you for teaching me how to move my body. When I started doing your exercises I had, had major operations. Also I have lymphodema and osteo-arthritis. I was unable to lie flat on the floor. Your exercises have made me capable to lie flat on the floor, pick my legs up and put them on a chair, kneel on all fours and crouch. I can now move my body like other people of my 64 years. I also am able to know what do when sitting in a chair that gives me pain. You have taught me not be frightened of pain and what constitutes pain, so I rarely need pain killers. I hope other people with pain will avail themselves of your exercises. I am a much happier person because of you. Diana B |
Fr K for hip pain
Dear Larry, Fr K has had two knee replacements. He has had some terrible pain in the left hip. His doctor diagnosed arthritis, but his physio diagnosed bursitis. Recently the pain has gone down to the outside of his knee. Fr K showed remarkable improvement. After just a couple of days his walking was back to normal. He still complains of a little discomfort but is so happy to be mobile again. Many thanks, he is certain that the e-cises made all the difference. He had been in such a bad state unable to walk etc. He is so grateful.

Corrine for Back Pain
Dear Larry, I really apologise for not writing you sooner. I was to make an appointment with you but my back has been great for the past 6-8 weeks!. It looks like the combination of changing the exercises and rostering works well for me. I have had occasionally a sharp pain in my lower back after a shift and it was quite painful when bending forward thus quite different from the strain pain that had previously. Fortunately it has not happened recently. I was very happy with the care I received so I won’t hesitate to contact you if needed in the future. Corrine S |
Michelle for chronic neck and shoulder pain
Hi Larry, My shoulders now seem to spend most of their time in the correct position (thanks to the awareness and exercises you gave me) and I feel fantastic. This a major breakthrough for me because although I have had discomfort and pain periodically for more than half of my life I have never been given effective advice to manage this. I was given lots of help but it did not factor in the fact that I was holding shoulders in the wrong position. Now when I use the posture taught in the Egoscue Method it feel perfect whereas before it felt 'nearly right'. I am amazed that it has taken so long to find someone to give me such wonderful advice. I am spending much of my time feeling grateful for your help so my sincere thanks. Kind regards, Michelle Michelle T. |
Vanessa for Online therapy for neck and shoulder pain
I was suffering a lot of chronic pain in my shoulder and neck for many years.I tried physiotherapy, massage, acupuncture and a chiropractor. Finally sick of all this depressing pain I hopped onto the internet and started looking for a doctor who could give me some answers. I came across Larry Cohen who answered my email with some surprising results.I had been told by other doctors that I had weak pectoral muscles. But once I sent in my posture photos, the picture became clearer. I didn't have weak muscles at all. My initial problem was shoulder height and rotation asymmetry. Larry gave me some posture stretches which I tried and to my surprise when I stood up I felt great. There was such a relief from the pain.I have suffered this for six years, and to be able to get up in the mornings with no pain is the most exciting feeling. I am not pain-free but I can manage it now and that means more to me than anything else. No other doctor has taken the time to really listen and help me with this problem.I just want to thank you Larry for understanding how I was feeling. . Vanessa C |
